Dinosaurs, for Britannica Magazine
Front cover and internal illustration for the dinosaur issue of Britannica Magazine.
The brief for the cover was to depict a big carnivore bursting to life from a fossil. I pitched Baryonyx, as it’s a British dinosaur, and a bit different from the ‘heavy hitters’ like T-Rex and Velociraptor.
I drew both with and without the full fossil embedded in the rock, but we ultimately decided it was more successfully ‘coming to life’ if the bones weren’t left behind.
The second illustration depicts Jurassic Antarctica; featuring Glacialisaurus, Cryolophosaurus, and a little Tritylodon.
